Think About it Thursday

I was thinking... about all the things we pay for now that in the "old days" you didn't pay for or not nearly as much! We all talk about the economy and that we could be or need to be frugal but I wonder if some of our"needs" are actually needs.

I got the cable bill and I realize that for my land line, cable and Internet, I am paying $113.79 a month. Now, I do use the Internet daily for personal and our business but the TV doesn't get turned on most days, really. When I was a child (that was a really long time ago) people had one phone and they just watched maybe three stations. No Internet. I didn't have a personal cell phone, neither did my siblings and that goes for Mom and Dad too! Just one phone line. Now a days, my grown children don't have land lines...just use cell phones. However, My Hubby and I have two cell phones, one home line and two vonage business lines. My Dad likes to call my home line and if I don't answer, he then dials my cell phone and then the office lines. I literally run trying to answer them before they go to voice mail! Because he is retired (I said RETIRED) he loves to think of me running from room to room trying to catch the phones! I think we are going to join the younger generation and get rid of the land line but we are also rethinking cable TV because we just don't watch it enough.
Now some people are paying for satellite radio...What is up with that?

I have to agree about not needing the cable. We haven't had cable in the almost 4 years we've been married and we've survived just fine. We don't watch that much tv and the only stations that are really missed are the sports and educational channels that my husband loves to watch. We're talking about getting rid of our land line too.

I know a lot of people that have eliminated the land line and just do cell--I'm just not ready for that yet! I think I do get my money's worth out of the cable though--I've been watching too much tv!!

Yeah, if we watched it I probably wouldn't mind the bill! I think that is why I am re-thinking it. But, we use our cell phone almost all the time that I forget to even check the messages on the land-line. Younger people like you have already made the switch.

We are also thinking about getting rid of our land line. If I got rid of our cable there would be a cry so loud it would be heard throughout the state. My husband and my son could not live without it!

Sadly, it is just me and the Hubby and he watches PBS and I read a lot...we sound like nerdy people, Huh?

If we got rid of the land line - we'd have to figure out something for our 9 year old. Sadly, I've been leaning towards getting him a very simple little 3-number cell just so I can call him when I need to.

It's amazing where we all gotten to in terms of communication. Our girls are too young (I hope) to have mobile phones yet, but it's coming, right.

I have a BlackBerry from work, and that's hideous! You think 'I will just go on to clear the dross' and before you know it you're sucked into something. Baaaad.

DH is addicted to the cable - it gives him something to do while I indulge my blogdiction, so I guess it stays.
