My Granny

I stay with my Granny on the weekends, well, not the whole weekend...I split it up with my sister!
I was overwhelmed at first...I received a typed three page instruction list on how to take care of her the first time!
My first thought was ...
I am not qualified to do this!
and My second thought was...
Oh, my God don't let me kill Granny!
I love sitting with her and hearing the same stories over and over and OVER!
There is a comfort to hearing your family history spoken from the authority of that history...she struggles to remember what happened 40 minutes ago...but memories from 40 years ago unfold effortlessly!
I also love walking through her home and looking at all the pictures that document our family...the odd placing of a 60 year old picture next to the picture of a recent addition to our family...just adds to my love!
I will cherish this time I have with her and I am grateful to God for the gift!

I love how you look at and appreciate your family. Sadly it always reminds me of how I do not have that with mine.

What a golden opportunity you have! You could so easily consider her a burden, but you are celebrating spending this time with her!

I always loved the mishmash of photos in my grandparents home. And it seemed just right, you know? This is a cool thing that you are doing.

Thank you for sharing this, but most importantly, thank you for caring for your grandmother. I speak from experience. People like you are few and far between.

That is so sweet that you take care of her every weekend! I´m sure sometimes it´s not that easy, but you seem to enjoy your time with her. I never knew my grandmother that well,so it was like going to a stranger...

OMG!! This so reminds me of my time with my granny in Kolkata! She also has trouble recalling recent details but she has a razor sharp memory of details 40 years back! Wow!! Its such a treat just listening to her talk about her early life, my mom's childhood and even about me when I was a baby!!

I'm sure you'll always be so grateful for this time you have with her to learn her history, and yours!

I took my 85-year-old aunt shopping on Sunday -- she needed everything from underwear out. By the time we were done, I was bushed, so I know she must have been exhausted.

And I loved every minute of it!
