...and I mean that in the nicest way!
I am reading Pat Conroy's memoir My Losing Season. This is a great read so far...
So...I have been thinking about losing and being a loser! It isn't fun to lose or at least I hate to lose...
Does anyone enjoy losing?
I have a good friend who didn't win something huge in High School, like cheerleaders or Homecoming Queen...my friend can't even emember what is was!
But she hasn't forgotten her Mother's words...
my friend is sobbing on her bed, her life in ruins and fearing she would never be able to show her face in the the hallways of high school again!
Her Mom comes in and tells her what will become her and later my philosophy on losing!
She tells her that in losing she will have richer character...my friend who was 15 at the time...thought... Great...not only am I a loser but my Mom is crazy!
But...my friend and I always call each other when we have these character building experiences! Over the years we have built up a lot of character!
I bring this up because...I really am enjoying this book and I recommend it!
But... also I know many of you did not support my candidate and while I am not sorry my guy won...I am sorry you are hurt! I think about the times I worked hard for a Presidential candidate to have him lose...it' s hard! I know this is hard for John McCain who I do respect and admire!
Anyway...
In the spirit of Losers everywhere...I am having a contest about losing...write about a time where your losing actually meant something to you! I will let the readers judge and I will donate $50 to your favorite charity...just not a charity that hurts anyone! I mean really.... charitable hurting!
First link back to me and leave a comment saying you want to play and what Charity you hope to win for! I will announce the winner on Thanksgiving day! Please pick a Charity that I can give to online and I will print the receipt and then mail it to you!!

What a great contest idea!!!!
I agree with you that losing is very hard, especially when you cared so much about what you were fighting for. I remember how I felt when Kerry lost to Bush last time. Good God, I wanted to curl up and die. So I try to remember that when I hear all the negative stuff coming out of the mouths of the McCain supporters. They need time to process and work through their let-down too.
I know losing is character-building but I still hate it! I will let you know if I can come up w/something good to write about for the contest.
Yea!!! A contest for losers!!! I will put my thinking cap on and get back with you!!
I already know this one.
After baby 1, I 'lost' 55 pounds!
After baby 2, I 'lost' 35 pounds!
After baby 3, I found the above 'lost' pounds.
Weight is the only thing I'm every happy to 'lose'!!
...Otherwise, in all other aspects, go suck an egg. lol No. I'm NOT a sore loser.
Great idea for a contest, Ronda! I can't think of a time where I lost something I had worked hard for and was disappointed. I did lose a family heirloom ring somewhere at the MGM Grand and I regret it to this day, but I don't think that counts.
First, when I read the opening line of this post, I thought, "WHAT?! That's not my Ronda calling me a loser, is it?!" ;)
Second, great post!! I will think long and hard... and then I'll enter the contest!
book sounds good! i am a big loser! lol i pride myself in it lol. No.....your right loseing can b painfull, but if won all the time we would all be big heads and arrogant! ill hav a think for a story xoxoxo
hmmmm....I'll have to think on this one too.....I've already got a charity picked out though. ;)
Oh, and I LOVE the prize for this contest.....great thinking!!!!
What a wonderful way to award us losers! I love that idea!
I am SO with Rhonda,
I lost 60 pounds BEFORE my first baby... and then KEPT that weigt during the pregnancy (throwing up, it was my forte) but gained ALL 60 back after I had the baby because I could EAT again.
I lost 20 pounds with my second baby (ahh, the morning sickness) and went on weight wathcers and LOST 24 pounds... to get pregnant AGAIN and lost another 23 pounds (this time I had a sub cu pump and a pick line) and had the baby and shot right back to my fabulously curvy 189...
Yes I would love to lose, weight that is... but right now it taste so good, just to eat the good stuff, that the only thing I am losing is my drive to LOSE weight... should just get pregnant again, right?
I am a loser and someday I will lose it the right way... but for now, I will enjoy being a loser through your contest, which is one of the best ideas that I have seen in a long, long time!!!!!
love it,rock star!!! Everyone wins.
Love,
Em
I would love for some money to be donated to prematurity awareness. I ALMOST lost two of my children due to prematurity. I posted about one of them the other day. Did you know it it prematurity awareness month? It is
I'm with Tiffany, I felt let down and "loser"-like when Kerry lost. I also felt this way in 2000 with Gore and in the primaries when Hillary was out. Being a true liberal, I jumped on board with Obama and was excited- one more time. I feel like so much was riding on this one and was so emotional from my 3 previous losses- I don't think I could have taken (or this country) another "loss".
Losing stinks!
Alright, I am in. It us up today.
