What Bugs Me!!!

The things that make me happy...really "don't cost a thing!" I love long walks, hot coffee, and time with my children and grandchildren. We have a new shopping mall down the road and it has this great synchronized light show on the trees and buildings with terrific music...we sit with our coffee and watch the show...free!
My Hubby and I sometimes light a fire outdoors and sit and have long chats...the rules are we have to be positive...no negative comments...not about our family or the economy! We talk about movies, books I have read or our house we want to build in the mountains! This is free and it is one of my favorite times with Hubby.

What bugs me is people who are negative and critical of other people...I don't know how I keep finding these people. My theory is that like some kind of creature from outer space I morph into their persona...I dislike that about myself! That I allow their negativity to absorb into my pores and become a part of my being! I have started being very choosy about my friends...I have allowed relationships to drift away because they were more about what I could do for them than a mutual relationship. They were exhausting! When I started to say "No, I wouldn't be able to do that for them!"...I wasn't quite as popular as I once was however, my time with my family is quality time and I feel very good about the relationships I have left!
I wonder if people consider what we are teaching our children with this "You Can't do this!" attitude. We seem as a country ready and very quickly to find what is wrong with each other but slow to see what is right...to encourage each other and be kind to each other rather than tearing each other down! These people rarely talk about what they have learned from their mistakes...they use others as example to make a point. The best teachers in my life have used their own life experience to teach me..not by talking about others! When I look back on my life...it is the mistakes that I have made that have taught me the most...the times I have been humbled that have given me a compassionate out look on life! I am grateful for every one of my screw ups as they have made me who I am today. I think, as a country we could be a little more tolerate of others as they find their way...if you can't just don't sit next to me...I have big pores!

rejoice in our suffering, suffering produces perseverance, perseverance- character and character - hope...

Rained all night and still coming down today. It's December for heaven sakes!

Just had a phone conversation with a negative person last night.... I hope I don't ever have to speak to the lady again. I just wanted to hurry and end the conversation because I love my pores.

AMEN! I wish everyone felt this way. Im so sick of the negativity. We are alive and healthy and have so much to be grateful for, not everyone has that luxury. I love you!

I have one friend who attracts crazies like a magnet! I stay positive and supportive by laughing at her! lol

I had one very negative friend. We were friends from elementary and the cause of most of my junior high nightmares. She was supposed to be in my wedding party too, but thankfully saw her for what she was when she tried to destroy my friendship with Tammy (posted last week). She got the boot. Permanently.

Ronda is right. It's all too easy to make quick judgments about people and lash out reactively instead of thinking. In fact, if I didn't write about my own mistakes there wouldn't be much ongoing material for my newspaper column!

What a refreshing idea...No negativity! I think I'll try to work that into my life. Sometimes I find myself in a negative slump, I'll do better.
Thanks (as always) for provoking my thoughts!

P.S. Go look @ my blog...I'm in Mexico and I'm seeing the many many things I have to be thankful for!

I don't like to be around negative people either! I always try to be upbeat and positive--I hate it if I tart having negative thoughts and try to immediately turn it around.

I really, really enjoyed this post, and can't stand myself when I get into that negative space for too long. Thankfully I have people who kick me when I need to get my head out, and that helps. I love the idea of weeding out those people who are so negative or who, basically, suck all of the air out of the room; you are a wise woman for doing so!

i feel exactly the same. In the last few years I've really eliminated alot of people from my life..mostly because my family is so large that I just simply dont have time, but also because i made choices to spend as much time as possible around positive uplifting people. I cant be dragged down anymore. the older i get the harder it is to pick yourself up after someone has trampled you.

I always tell my kids when they are in a funk - you wake up every day and can choose to be happy or choose to be sad. I choose happy!
