Will the Sunshine Ever Come Back?

I am feeling a little bit sad. I think part of the problem is I am solar powered and the sun is missing from the Florida Sunshine which by the way is messing up the whole Florida tourist campaign of "Share the Sunshine" as frankly, there is none to share. I could share "Buckets of Rain" not just figuratively but literally..."Buckets of Rain!" It's hard to complain about something we have prayed so hard about because Florida has been in a 3 year drought but...seriously I can complain about anything! I have earned...and I do mean earned the nickname Eeyore...and I can crack my Hubby up by imitating this name sake.
But...Eeyore is a tiring character to imitate...it even hurts my shoulders. We have all worked too hard, put too many to-dos on our calenders and most of all struggled with this economy! I am just tired and cranky...if I were a toddler... someone would put me to bed!
We have planned a trip to Austin, Texas in June and I will be grateful for the time away...it is helpful for me to get-a-way when I feel this overwhelmed, also talking to a friend (Karyn...expect a phone call)...but mostly it's time to sit with God by the lake. I won't be talking...I will be listening!

Here's What I am Thinking...

I had a great conversation with a friend yesterday who could feel sorry for herself but she does not seem to feel this way, she could be angry but again she does not act that way! Instead, we laughed for about an hour on the phone...thank you...dear friend it was a gift to me!
Life for many of us hasn't turned out the way we planned. We should be angry, disappointed...like many of the people who "talk" on TV!
I guess the people I know or at least those closest to me...did feel anger initially and then it turned to a more productive state of mind...acceptance...which I think has resulted in creative ideas!

My sister and her husband are both out of work...they are living off their savings...they have grown a garden and literally eat the fruits of their labor! My sister is someone I admire...she has not become a bitter person but rather still someone who has maintained her sense of humor.
She called me to chat and she said for the first time in her life she doesn't mind answering the phone and talking to telemarketers.

First Call...
"Mrs.Smith*"
"Yes" my sister answers.
"I see that you and your husband own your own home out right..."
"and that you have excellent credit!"
"Yes" my sister agrees...
"And do you also see that both my husband and I have lost our jobs!" my sister adds.
"Have a nice day, Mrs. Smith!" telemarketer replies before hanging up!

Second call...
Recorded message states "Are you tired living paycheck-to-paycheck?"

My sister stops listening and says she starts longing for the good old days when they did live paycheck-to-paycheck!

I am not making light of people's pain but my sister has not given up...she has a great sense of humor and I don't doubt she will find a job! I realize not everyone has family, friends and a support network...believe me I know as I volunteer once a month at a kitchen that feeds the homeless.

While I was in St. Augustine I met a woman named Joanne...obviously struggling...she had health issues and her family had fractured due to an argument and she does not attend church...she does not seem to have a support network of any kind!
But...she still had her sense of humor and she and I laughed together. I know I was important to her because I reminded her of the good... life still had to offer.
I am not suggesting you strike up a conversation with a stranger but if you know of someone who is hurting...please listen and make them laugh...it really is the best medicine!
That's what I am thinking...

*not her real name....Duh?

Doctor's Orders ...Take a Laugh!

I think the importance of a sense of humor in life shouldn't be underestimated...seriously!
My Hubby has many qualities that I find sexy and endearing but he has a great sense of humor.
Someone who has the ability to make others laugh in a stressful time is so important. I have many of those people in my life...I married that kind of guy...granted a good deal of the stress I am under he has provided but he does make me laugh all the time! Most of my friends make me laugh and all of my children and their spouses have a great sense of humor! We like funny people which this story does not indicate at all... other than to suggest we were very tired!

Last evening...Hubby had a meeting to go to and I was not invited nor did I want to attend but I did make the drive back to St. Augustine with him...a three hour tour.
So...he suggested places to drop me off and I decided I wanted to go to Marshall's which even though they have very low prices (they do and no...I am not getting paid to say this) ...My Hubby was worried about me spending too much money!

So...as I am getting out of the car..
He says " Remember we are Broke..." and as I turn to look at him...thinking "Yeah...that was going to slip my mind"...he adds...
"...Back Mountain!"
I know he's cheesy but I can't believe he said it and I start laughing...
"I don't think that means what you think it means! I say
and "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"
I tell him adding..."I think you may want to see the movie before you tell people we are indeed Broke Back Mountain..."

So...we will never be on the comedy circuit but
"Who makes you laugh?"

Simply the Best!

Update: Riley came through surgery fine...I can pick her up after 4pm. She was upset when she came to...so they sedated her...:( but I can pick her up later today!

So...I am sitting here bawling my eyes out! Riley is in surgery or at least being prepped for it!
I feel like I have abandoned her...
Everyone has left such kind words and emails...Thank you so very much for understanding!
Those who think I am a bit crazy that's okay too!
Many of you said it is just a normal thing that occurs for dogs and that's what I am hoping! Her blood work did come back looking fairly normal...which is a good sign.
What happened is Riley took off running after a lizard (her mortal enemy) and followed it into some bushes and when she came out the cyst was bleeding and we couldn't get it to stop bleeding!
So, because of the location and the YUCK factor...it needs to come out! The vet was concerned about size, location and the fact that it had grown so quickly!
So, after a thousand dollars or so later and the trauma to Riley...she should be fine! She is the best dog ever!
Speaking of money, which reminds me of the economy...Anyone besides me a little worried?
I have had to stop watching CNN and reading the paper... I am seeing people lose their jobs in real life...I can't keep reading and watching this all the time!
For me...the simple things in life are the very best and since my accounts are dwindling to almost nothing...it works out well, because simple is all I can afford right now!

What Bugs Me!!!

The things that make me happy...really "don't cost a thing!" I love long walks, hot coffee, and time with my children and grandchildren. We have a new shopping mall down the road and it has this great synchronized light show on the trees and buildings with terrific music...we sit with our coffee and watch the show...free!
My Hubby and I sometimes light a fire outdoors and sit and have long chats...the rules are we have to be positive...no negative comments...not about our family or the economy! We talk about movies, books I have read or our house we want to build in the mountains! This is free and it is one of my favorite times with Hubby.

What bugs me is people who are negative and critical of other people...I don't know how I keep finding these people. My theory is that like some kind of creature from outer space I morph into their persona...I dislike that about myself! That I allow their negativity to absorb into my pores and become a part of my being! I have started being very choosy about my friends...I have allowed relationships to drift away because they were more about what I could do for them than a mutual relationship. They were exhausting! When I started to say "No, I wouldn't be able to do that for them!"...I wasn't quite as popular as I once was however, my time with my family is quality time and I feel very good about the relationships I have left!
I wonder if people consider what we are teaching our children with this "You Can't do this!" attitude. We seem as a country ready and very quickly to find what is wrong with each other but slow to see what is right...to encourage each other and be kind to each other rather than tearing each other down! These people rarely talk about what they have learned from their mistakes...they use others as example to make a point. The best teachers in my life have used their own life experience to teach me..not by talking about others! When I look back on my life...it is the mistakes that I have made that have taught me the most...the times I have been humbled that have given me a compassionate out look on life! I am grateful for every one of my screw ups as they have made me who I am today. I think, as a country we could be a little more tolerate of others as they find their way...if you can't just don't sit next to me...I have big pores!

rejoice in our suffering, suffering produces perseverance, perseverance- character and character - hope...

SHHHHHH ....it's in the Mail

Okay...My Secret Santa loot is in the mail and I signed it deceptively...that's right! This is hard for me...I don't keep secrets very well... unless it's really important stuff!

Fun stuff...good news...sit by me...I'll tell every time!

My girl is funny, smart and such fun to read! She has excellent taste and a beautiful home decorated really pretty. It was kind of hard to buy for her because I wanted it to be nice but...since she loves to shop...I was afraid she already had it!
Any way..I sent if off ... put a fake address on it and signed my name all mysteriously...

I had FUN and I hope she likes it!

We are having an engagement party for my youngest and his gorgeous fiancee this Saturday, it will be a opportunity for our two families to meet...I am excited about that and Sunday..I am going to be a in Christmas play at our church...I have a lot of lines that I still don't quite know...I am old and forgetful!
But I am having FUN!

Mind Wandering...

Let's see...it's already Thursday...what am I thinkin'?
The economy has me worried...it is a wonder anyone would want to be President right now...my father said "I wouldn't take the job!"
Which reminded me of this fab coaster my friend Karyn gave me for my desk that reads...
MY JOB IS SECURE...NOBODY WANTS IT!
No truer words were ever written.
I need a vacation... I need for my accounts receivables not to be in 90 days...which is about to force my accounts payable into a very dark place!
Speaking of dark places...I can't watch most of these reality shows like Celebrity Rehab...I last maybe five minutes and then while cringing...I switch the channel! The one I do watch though...I can not explain why... Tori and Dean! I sit there mesmerized...the Hubby thinks I am crazy!
Anyway...back to a vacation...Anyone going to BlogHer convention in Chicago next July?

Game Face...

Okay...
Here's what I am thinkin'
I love The Bonnie Hunt's show and she is giving this give-away to Vegas but I keep missing who the featured guest is...I am assuming someone says it or it flashes on the screen but this here...deaf, dumb and blind kid keeps missing it! So...I enter and guess who the featured guest is!!!
Pretty clear...I am not going to Vegas!

I am having a give-away here and here! The one here is on Friday ...so hurry up!
I watched the movie Secret Life Of Bees...Sunday with the Hubby! I loved the book...the movie surprisingly was not as good to me....just my opinion.

My grand kids are having their first sleep over with me Friday night!!!! I am so excited and busy planning a bunch of activities that will exhaust The hubby and myself and will hopefully amuse the cutest girl and boy in America!

Rays lost last night...I would say that is just sad! But...I think the boys face show it...
We are coming back!
That's determination on their faces...in case you were wondering why my grandson looks so scary! And Old...he is only three doesn't he look like we are sending him off to the marines!

He ain't afraid of "No Ghosts!"

***My Daughter made me change my title as...I quoted the movie line wrong!!!***

My Grandson is fearless...well almost fearless and he is only three! I have admired this quality about him for awhile now. He is inquisitive, energetic and fearless...the trifecta of terror for Mommas... luckily his Mommy is fearless, too.
Recently, he asked that we spend an evening together, he, his sister, Gigi and Papa. So...I said " What would you like to do?" His answer was "I want to go to McDonald's!" No surprise there...not only does it have food he likes, but a built in play area and a lady who works there that loves him! He has the hook- up on toys...she gives him little bags filled with Happy Meal toys...every time she sees him! ( I have some serious competition from that little lady) My grandson then surprised me with..."I want to go to Walgreen's!" "Walgreen's?" I say..."Okay" I said.
The little grandson said after Walgreen's he wanted to go to my house to feed the dogs, cats and fish! He likes to feed our two dogs and two cats and then we go outside and sit by the lake and throw hunks of bread to the cat-fish!
I loved his choice for our evening but the Walgreen's was a bit surprising!

So...after we finished up a wonderful time at our favorite restaurant McDonald's , topped off our supper with a fine desert of after dinner coffee(me) and ice cream and hot apple pie (them...okay and me) the Grandson announced "Let's go to Walgreen's!" My Hubby and I just smiled and said "Okay!" We were happy to take him there just perplexed by his choice.

We get to Walgreen's and my Grandson's face gets a little serious...I am really confused..."I thought this is where you wanted to come ?" I ask.
"I do" he answers solemnly.
He walks slowly looking down aisles as he goes...pausing until he reaches what he is looking for...
we stop and my Grandson looks down the long aisle and then up at me...
"We don't have to go down there..." I start to say and He says..."Let's go Gigi" and we don't run away which would indicate this child has some of my DNA...no we start the long walk down the Halloween Aisle!
Picture a Halloween aisle in Walgreen's with all those battery operated freaky, scary little beings!
My grandson goes up to a Cobra and puts his hand out and pulls it away at least five times. I say "Sweetie, lets go to the toy aisle" which the grand daughter even at 16 months understands and frankly would rather do!
The grandson wouldn't leave...he was determined to push every button of every scary little being he could find on that aisle! I couldn't watch...I left with the Grand daughter so at least both of them would not keep their Mother up all night with nightmares!
My Hubby said that the Grandson touched each one...starting with the cobra who as you push the button... strikes at your hand and ending with this witch who when you push her button she pulls her head from the top of her body until she appears headless! My Hubby said at each one...he would recite the mantra...
"It's only pretend...It's only pretend...It's only pretend!"
He walked the whole aisle, trying each thing twice or more and when he felt like he conquered it...
"He announced..."Okay, let's go feed the dogs!"
I am in awe of this little boy and I wish I was as able to face my fears as bravely as he does!
Mariah at Insane Mama is having a give-away at Halloween...Check it out!!

WHAT????

It's just the Hubby and I... and two dogs and two cats left at home. Sometimes, I wonder what a person hiding in the closet would think of us...
Okay, I don't think of this often... because that would just be paranoid but... sometimes I do wonder!

We are aging and starting to show visible signs of aging. Well, I can't actually see the signs... because nine times out of ten...I can't find my glasses! My memory is gone... What was I talking about? Oh..yeah!
My Hubby's hearing is nearly gone...I used to think it was selective hearing until that time in the car...
We were on a romantic drive, just the two of us...when something caught my eye out the window...I can't even remember what it was... ( remember...my memory is gone!) So...I looked at my sweetie and said "Wow, what do you think that was about?" My Hubby looked at me strangely, paused and shrugged his shoulders and then stuck his tongue out!
"Why on earth did you do that?" I said.
He replied "Didn't you say...Stick you tongue out?"
"No! Why would I say that?"
"I don't know...Why did you?"
"I didn't!"
That story had slipped from my mind until a couple of days ago...

The Hubby was in the kitchen reading the paper...silently cursing me for blogging...I am sure, when I was trying to leave a comment for Rhonda about Niagara...it looked like it was spelled wrong...so I yell across the house to the kitchen...
"How do you spell Niagara?"
He answers back "Why do you want to spell Viagra?"
"I don't" I yell..."I want to spell Niagara"
"I...heard...what ...you... said... Why...do...you...want ...to ...spell...Viagra? He said slowly!
"I... don't!" I yell back just as slowly!
He stomps down the hallway..."Why...do...you...want...to... spell ...Viagra?
" I don't" I say..."I want to spell Niagara!"
"Oh...N-i-a-g-r-a"
So...he told me wrong... and that's why I misspelled Niagara on Rhonda's blog!

Blogging...Blogging...Blogging...

Tuesday...I said someone from the real world wanted to give my blog address out...it was all done in a complimenting manner but I freaked! I know it doesn't make sense but this blog has morphed into something else and the defining it for myself may take some pondering with myself and God.
I started literally blogging on my 50th birthday...just as an act of defiance...not against anyone other than myself! You see, I am a fearful person who worries. I don't worry about what other's think of me...although that may be the problem...I worry about and are fearful about losing control of life. My first blog was watching my grandson run straight down a very steep hill as fast as he could...I was afraid and he was not. He only became afraid when he heard fear in my voice and I admired his little two year old heart for being fearless! My second blog was my riding with a friend on his Harley...so not me... but I did it fearlessly!!!
This blog for me is a record of my struggle with trying to be less fearful and it has morphed into...a walk down the office hallway checking in on my co-workers and hearing what is going on in their lives and how their day is going! I have worked from home these last four years and prior to this I have always had great office friends, ...I still keep in touch with three of them by email. But I miss the daily contact of "partnering in crime, complaining about the economy or "How cute are my grand babies ?" with my co-workers. Some of you have become that for me...and I thank you!!
I told you God was working with me and he is! I got an email asking me if I wanted to take part in a survey for personal bloggers...I checked it out and my computer hasn't crashed so maybe it is legit! The blog said I could pass it on so I am...
I spent some time in quiet refection and self-examination about why I blog...
Bottom line...I think I am normal and not weird...so I will keep blogging away!
Have a great day and if you want to take the survey...here's the link!

I Would Think About it... But, it Hurts!

We are in her office and she is gushing over everything he says and I am thinking seriously...
She is laughing over everything he is saying and I smile uncomfortably... she tells me he is a genius and I think uh-huh!
He is starting to lean towards her to whisper something and I can feel my stomach tightening and then she rests her hand on his arm and starts playing with MY HUSBAND'S shirt sleeve and I start screaming at her and... I... wake... up!!!

I have held a grudge all day against the Hubby about this stupid dream...I am trying not to...I know it's silly but it seemed so real. He has called me today numerous times to ask me business related questions, (I mean we have a business together) and I have snapped at him! I think I am insane and he knows I am insane...but there you have it...he misbehaved in a imaginary Realtor's office and I am mad!

That's what I have been Thinkin' about today on Thursday!

Also, my GIVEAWAY and how funny Candid Carrie is...I mean really funny! Please click on the Giveaway and enter for cool stuff from The Bonnie Hunt Show
Also, read about my trip to see her show at Travel with Ronda AKA Ronda's Rants on the Run!!!

What The Fudge!

Well, if all went well ...this post...posted on Thursday...and I am seeing The Bonnie Hunt Show today...if today is Thursday!
This is very unusual for me! Especially, for me and The Hubby to just take off work and go...we are pretending to be retired people!
Sometimes...you just need to say "What the Fudge!" (I am not swearing...My Grandson is going to read soon!)
So...If you said"What the Fudge today!"
Where would you go today?
And what would you do?

Makin' Me Some plans!

First...I am thinkin'....Whaaaaaatttt is it already Thursday?
Well, yesterday...I was sittin at my desk...pushing a pencil around with another pencil and thinking...Is this where pencil pushers came from? When my home phone rang...caller ID said unavailable which always makes me think...Me, too!
(I am totally stealing this schtick from Jill Jill Bo Bill's post, sorry)
Anywho, then my cell phone rings..."unavailable" has my cell phone number!
I answer..
"Hello?"...
"Ronda?"...
"Yes..."
"This is somebody from the Bonnie Hunt Show!"
"Oh, Hi Somebody from the Bonnie Hunt Show"
"Well, we see you were interested in tickets for the Bonnie Hunt Show, on September 18th!"
"Yes..." (I should interject here that in my pretend world I have time to fly to Los Angeles and see the Bonnie Hunt Show, at least that is what I was thinking when I filled out this information online!)
"Well, Congratulations ...we will be sending your tickets...let me just verify some information!"
"Okay..." (At this point do I tell this women I am a 50 year old women who has a pretend life or go along with this?...yeah, that's what I did!)
So, My Hubby and I are flying into Los Angeles on the 17th of September and staying two nights to see the New Bonnie Hunt Show...and we are so excited!!!! Yes, my Hubby took it all in stride...he sometimes resides in my pretend world with me!
I'll post pictures on Travel with Ronda and blog-ument the entire adventure!

Okay, Here's What I am thinkin'

My Mood is much better...
I think such a load is lifted off our shoulders when we forgive and when we seek forgiveness and receive forgiveness. I know we all talk about World Peace but really...How many of us can really achieve peace in our own homes? It's not always easy to "get along," especially when family is close and when I say "We are always in each other's "bidness", I mean it... because we have a family business! Well, we all just do the best we can and with God's help it will be enough.

My Grandmother (Granny) is out of the hospital but she is still struggling with pain...our family will have some tough decisions to make about her continued care. We all want to do what is right for her as she has always been there for all of us. I thank God for my Mother and my Aunt who have worked around the clock to take care of her. As our society ages, we have got to get this right...or I see a great many families in peril, financially and emotionally!

I want to give a big shout out to my friend karyn...I share her with Brenda from Queen of Good Intentions but I wish you all a friend just like her...
She is the kind of friend who would always bail you out of jail...no matter what you did and tell you the truth about it..."Prison won't be so bad...you'll make lot's of friends!" I wish she had time to blog because she would be my first choice for the Kick Ass Blogger Award....
speaking of ...

I won one! Thank you Lisa from JujuBoo...I want you to know I didn't have my glasses on but...I quickly went and got them ...because I thought it said "Big Ass Blogger Award"...

I am not sure I would have recovered from that one! Thank you again and I will post my choices later this afternoon!

Think About it Thursday...To Blog or Not Blog...

Well, I am thinkin'....

You should probably hang on to something because...it' going to be a bumpy ride! My mind is all over the place today...just so many things to think about... But, I was thinkin' about blogging and why I blog?

At first...I thought I don't know but ...I really enjoy it...I feel creative and it's the most successful I have been at keeping a journal of some sort...

My family's reaction to my blogging has been varied although surprised and perplexed might be a theme...
My Mom at my Father's 70th birthday party warned my Aunt who was talking to me...
"Be careful what you say...She will blog about it!"
As if...? Oh, wait I just did!

My kids were my biggest fans at first...now they don't even look at it! My daughter apologised for not looking at my blog because she had been so busy....
Without even thinking I said.." Oh, I have a fan base!"
I was serious!!!

My husband and I were driving to Jacksonville/St. Augustine for business and dinner at my favorite restaurant and we were staying overnight...
I was talking to my daughter on the phone, telling her all our plans...When the Hubby says ..."I forgot the lap top..."
Without a trace of Irony and I said "But, what about my blog?"
My daughter burst out laughing and told her husband...
"My Dad forgot the lap top and my Mom just said ...But, What about my blog?" (More laughter heard)
Again, I was serious!

Well, I am enjoying the blogging...
I told my friend Karyn that I was spending money on pimping out my blog and she asked how much?
I told her (I am not printing it 'cause I haven't told my Hubby, yet?)
She seemed surprised as I haven't even spent money on clothes (clothes shopping is or was my ultimate pastime) and she said "a month?"
No...a one time fee! "Oh" she says "That's okay!"

What is happening to me and what is very surprising is how I feel connected to all of you...
I care about Nic and that her in-laws might be in danger in Georgia... I pray for their safety!
Keeps always makes me laugh as she is so clever...
I love, love to read Jennifer and all that is happening at the Fun House...even when she makes me cry...talking about her little girl...
Carrie at Candid Carrie always funny but at a turn can break your heart with a very real truth that she lives with everyday and thrives doing it! She is a thriving survivor!
I love to share my book adventures with the Sunday Salon and other book readers!
Gina at Lattes and Lipstick who shared her story about George and her smart and loving fund raising idea...
There is so many and I am grateful for your sharing as you have given me a sense of community...that I didn't know was lacking in my life. I work from my home now and I miss co-workers...partners in crime if-you-will...Thanks for being my partners in crime! I mean that in the very nicest way!
Again, I am serious!

Think About it Thursday...

I am thinkin'...

Well, yesterday while I was dressing I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and I immediately went back in my mind to 8th grade, after swimming practice, in the changing room I was putting "the girls" back into my training bra...
This mean girl comes up to me and says real mean like..."Your boobs are too high!"
"My boobs are too high?" I say meekly and she says "Yeah, your boobs are too high!"
I am just beside myself, because while I seriously knew they were quite small...it just never occurred to me that they could be too high! I mean just my luck...I have small, too high boobs!
I worried about this until I started discreetly checking other girls out and I discovered I seem to fit it with everyone but... the really busty mean girl!
Anyway, while dressing yesterday, it occurred to me...my boobs are no longer too high!
I am wondering what that busty mean girl is looking at in the mirror!!

I have also decided Dr. James Dobson has finally lost his mind...Stuart Shepherd, director of digital media, for Focus on the Family is asking people to pray that we will have raining of biblical proportions for the Democratic National Convention on August 28, 2008... I guess he thinks only his Christian peeps know what to do with that kind of rain...but my Christian peeps know how to build an ark, too!
Read about it and see the video at Carpet Bagger Report

I had joked with Amelia Bedelia that I was going to do something different this Friday, instead of work even if it meant rob a bank... like a good blogger she said if I do... will I let her know so she can post on it!
As if....
If I rob a bank, I am going to at least get a good post out of it... I need good stories, too!

Think About it Thusday

I am thinkin'...

that many times I define myself by my problems instead of my joys...thinking not how full my life is ... but rather how empty my checkbook maybe at the moment.
I say God is so big...but I think my problems are so big God can't handle them.
I struggle to admit I need help while rushing to help others...
I am thinking of one of my favorite scriptures...

And we know that in all things God works together for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28
